Oasis of the SeasA Mexican newspaper reports that U.S. cruise passenger from Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas fell overboard as the cruise ship sailed to Cozumel. The Disney Magic, sailing the same route, then rescued the passenger, identified as Frank Jade. 

The newspaper reports that the Oasis didn’t even realize that the passenger had gone overboard.

Yesterday, a reader of Cruise Law News sent me a message indicating that Holland America Line (HAL) is announcing that it is testing a man overboard system.

The reader was a recent cruise passenger aboard the HAL Nieuw Amsterdam during the first week of this month. He mentioned that the announcement was in the ship’s 

Prins RichardVessel Tracker reports that on December 25, 2014, a German passenger aboard the Scandlines Prins Richard ferry went overboard while the ferry  was underway from Puttgarden, Germany to Rødby, Denmark.

A cruise passengers is missing from a Princess cruise ship heading towards Sydney today. The ship in question, the Sun Princess, is completing a 13-day cruise to New Zealand.

There is no explanation how or when the passenger went overboard.

A passenger commented on Cruise Critic this morning that the Master of the Royal Princess cruise ship announced that a person had been reported overboard and the ship was going to take a head count of the passengers and crew.

But the only information I could find were a couple of posting on the Cruise Critic board.

A crew member disappeared from Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas earlier in the week.

We were first notified of the crew member’s disappearance from another crew member who was concerned about the incident. Today we received confirmation that a crew member went overboard from a reliable separate and independent source.

Cruise expert professor Ross Klein reports, based on passenger accounts, that a passenger went overboard from the Caribbean Princess and was rescued on August 2, 2014.
