A crew member aboard P&O Cruises’ Arvia died on Sunday, October 26 after an accident in an elevator shaft. The accident occurred two days into the ship’s 14-night transatlantic voyage from Southampton, England to Barbados.
The Arvia made an unscheduled stop at A Coruña, Spain after the incident before continuing on its scheduled itinerary to Tenerife, Spain.
Inspectors from the U.K.’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) are investigating. The MAIB lists the case as an “accident in a lift shaft” on its website. The cause of the elevator accident has not been disclosed and it’s unclear whether the elevator was under repair.
