A proverbial “rogue wave” struck the Vision of the Seas cruise ship a week ago, on September 20th 2025, as the Royal Caribbean ship returned to Baltimore from Bermuda. The incident caused the cruise ship to rock sharply, sending dishes and glassware tumbling across dining rooms and bars. A viral TikTok video of the incident shows plates and glassware careening across the ship.

Despite the frightening situation there were no accounts of physical injuries according to the TikToker @evanddddddddddd who wrote, “A few elderly people fell from the rocking and some kids were scared but nobody was injured.”

He also applauded the crew for keeping everything under control.

“The staff are trained and experienced. They are more worried about safety rather than the mess. The staff had everything cleaned up and reopened all the food within 20 minutes.”

Rough weather occurs more than the cruise line would like to admit. There are usually a few videos like this from cruise ships each year. In 2014, the Splendor of the Seas encountered rough weather between Argentina and Uruguay. Read Rough Weather Rocks Royal Caribbean’s Splendor of the Seas. You can hear a different reaction from the passengers below.

Passengers who are injured due to rough weather are not necessarily entitled to compensation. Liability for such events turns largely on establishing the cruise line’s knowledge of the bad weather conditions and the failure to take an alternative and safer course and/or warning the guests to remain in their cabins.
