Legend of the Seas Another Royal Caribbean cruise ship is plagued by a gastrointestinal bug.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the Legend of the Seas has 114 sick passengers aboard as well as 2 sick crew members. They are experiencing the typical GI symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea.

The cruise ship is sailing a March 30 – April 14, 2015 itinerary to San Diego, California. The Celebrity Infinity is currently in San Diego with another GI outbreak. Both cruise ship sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and sailed a similar itinerary.

So far this year four of the five GI outbreaks reported by the CDC involve Royal Caribbean-owned cruise ships in the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruses fleet:  Grandeur of the Seas, Equinox, Infinity and Legend of the Seas. The fifth outbreak is on the Norwegian Pride

  • I have sailed RCI more than 30 times. One thing I have noticed over the years, my first cruise in 1996, is how they clean the ship. It is non-stop and I have seen improvements over the years on how they clean to protect the health of their guest. While the numbers may seem high, when you consider the numbers that get sick on ships compared to land, the numbers overall are low. Thousands sail each ship each week. How about some ideas to make the numbers even lower

I have been a crew member on this particular ship and on the big O… I know for a fact that whether an outbreak or not crew members make sure that their areas especially guest areas are top notch cleaned…when in outbreak times…It is double as much cleaning… It would be difficult and sound stupid…. but what if guests know that they are going to sail somehow gets examined by a Dr before they come on board. ..as some comes on with the symptoms of GI and it then gets spread around. I must be honest…RCI is the best cruise ship company I have worked for (I have seen others)… keep up the good work!!

I just sailed on legend of the seas and it was fabulous…..they are very health conscious and you are constantly sanitizing . If people get sick it is because someone got on sick and gave it to others….when I was sailing there were plenty of kids with snooty noses…..sorry but I don’t think the ships can do anything more then they are doing….wipe your kids noses, teach them to sneeze in their arm and blow their noses in tissues.

I hope you looked at the comments on the facebook
