A man who allegedly assaulted a teenager onboard the Carnival Mardi Gras on November 22 has been disembarked, according to a tip from a passenger.

Cruise Law News previously reported that the man made a threatening remark before he went to the ship’s teen club and allegedly attacked the teen, who was reportedly “badly injured.” The tipster, who wishes to remain anonymous, also sent a letter from the ship’s captain regarding the incident.

Security stayed outside the man’s cabin on the Carnival Mardi Gras and remained there “24/7” until he was disembarked, according to the tipster.

Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the man was disembarked and told Cruise Law News: “There was an incident between two guests onboard Carnival’s Mardi Gras over the weekend. The individual involved, along with his family, has been disembarked.”

The man and his family were removed from the ship in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, on November 25. Whether the man’s family was involved in the incident is unknown at this time.

Carnival did not indicate whether local authorities in Puerto Plata took the man into custody or whether the teen received medical treatment ashore. The police in the Dominican Republic do not have jurisdiction over crimes at sea involving U.S. nationals, as jurisdiction typically belongs to the FBI or local police at the ship’s departure port. The nationalities of the victim and assailant are unclear at this time.

The Carnival Mardi Gras is still at sea until November 29 when it returns to Port Canaveral, Florida.
